What is up with people who call you back nowadays when you accidentally dial (rather, punch in) the wrong number?
Gone are the days of innocently making a slip of the finger. Nowadays, you are tracked down and expected to come up with a reason for the error.
A few weeks ago my cell phone rang. When I answered, a young girl said:"You called me?"
I didn't know who she was so I asked, "Who is this?" She answered, "Well, who is this? You called me."
I replied: "No, I didn't call you." She then insisted: "Oh yes you did. Who is this?" I replied, "No, I didn't. Who is this?" She retorted, "If you didn't want to talk, then why did you call me?"
By this time I am thinking that this is some sort of prank, so I replied, "Okay, so I called you. But, nevermind." Puzzled, she replied, "What? What do you mean nevermind?" I answered, "You said I called you, I said I didn't call you, but you inisist that I did call you, so I am agreeing with you. I called you, but, never mind." She sighed loudly into my ear and asked, "Is this Jason's mom?" I said, "Jason who?" She said, "If you're Jason's mom, just say so." I replied, "No, I am not Jason's mom." I heard another long sigh and then she asked, "If you're not Jason's mom, but you called me, then who are you?" Taking cue from her, I breathed a heavy sigh as I smiled, "Right now I'm a woman who wishes she would've never bought a cell phone." She giggled-ever so slightly--"Well, I had a missed call and when you answered I just got SICK. You sounded just like Jason's mom!" I replied, "And I take it that that's a bad thing." She laughed out loud. I continued, "So, you had a missed call; I suppose I must have made made an error and punched in your number--but if I did--I didn't realize it. So, my apologies."
"Oh, no problem," she replied, "I'm just glad you're not Jason's mom!"
Me too.
